A Method for Comparing the Fatigue Performance of Forged AZ80 Magnesium

A closed die forging process was developed to successfully forge an automotive suspension component from AZ80 Mg at a variety of different temperatures (300 °C, 450 °C). The properties the forged were compared and contrasted with other research works on both intermediate full-scale level. monotonic response, as well stress strain-controlled fatigue behaviours, characterized for materials. Stress, strain energy-based data used basis comparison durability performance. effects starting material, temperature, geometry/configuration all studied aided in developing deeper understanding process-structure-properties relationship. In general, there is larger improvement material due cast base microstructural modification which enhances strength ductility more pronounced. optimum achieved by using extruded base-material closed-die higher rates lower temperatures. merits drawbacks various damage parameters (FDP’s) investigated predicting behaviour die-forged components, those investigated, energy density (SED) proved be most robust method comparison.
